Man in­dicted on sex abuse charges

KAILU­AKONA — A Kona grand jury in­dicted a man ac­cused of sex­u­ally abus­ing a mi­nor more than five years ago.

Charges were filed against Wil­liam John John­son on Nov. 6. A bench war­rant also was is­sued, with bail set at $35,000.

Ac­cord­ing to court doc­u­ments, the as­sault oc­curred some­time be­tween July 1 and Aug. 14, 2012. The al­leged vic­tim was younger than 14 years old at the time.

Doc­u­ments state John­son know­ingly en­gaged in sex­ual pen­e­tra­tion with the mi­nor, know­ingly had sex­ual con­tact and know­ingly sub­jected the al­leged vic­tim to sex­ual con­tact or caused to have con­tact with him.

John­son is charged with first-de­gree sex­ual as­sault and two counts of third-de­gree sex­ual as­sault. The grand jury also or­dered John­son to have no con­tact with the vic­tim.
