CBO Gives Good Score to Medi­care

The Con­gres­sional Bud­get Of­fice has given a fa­vor­able bud­get score to pro­posed Se­nate leg­is­la­tion de­signed to give Medi­care Ad­van­tage plans and ACOs greater flex­i­bil­ity in pro­vid­ing tele­health ser­vices to pa­tients with chronic con­di­tions. Pre­vi­ously, the CBO had ex­pressed con­cern that chang­ing Medi­care re­im­burse­ment pol­icy re­gard­ing telemedicine could dra­mat­i­cally in­crease health­care spend­ing. How­ever, the of­fice re­leased a pos­i­tive pre­lim­i­nary cost es­ti­mate of the CHRONIC Care Act, which in­cludes pro­vi­sions ex­pand­ing tele­health cov­er­age un­der Medi­care.
