There is a phrase we have in Germany: “Man kann nicht nur auf Rosen gebettet sein” – you can’t bed yourself only on roses. Freely translated, it means life isn’t always easy. But there is also a second phrase: “Wie man sich bettet, so liegt man,” as one makes his bed, so he must lie. Alone these sayings have equal merit, but combined they form a seed from which a new lesson emerges. Life cannot be an eternal bed of roses, but a patient gardener finds the beauty in everything that grows.
