Pythago­ras and his fol­low­ers con­sid­ered 10 the most sa­cred num­ber, as 10 = 1+2+3+4, which rep­re­sented ex­is­tence (1), cre­ation (2), life (3) and the four el­e­ments—earth, air, fire and wa­ter (4).

With that in mind, we proudly cel­e­brate 10 years of HILux­ury.

Co­in­ci­den­tally while hav­ing din­ner at Nobu re­cently, there sat the man him­self. Be­fore I knew it, we were smil­ing and laugh­ing as if we were old friends. We started chat­ting and rem­i­nisc­ing how it was 10 years ago that he graced the cover the pre­miere is­sue of HI Lux­ury. Nobu Mat­suhisa was the first celebrity chef I had ever met, and was quite hon­ored that he took the time to be on our de­but cover.

Much has hap­pened since that day, as we have come to meet so many won­der­ful peo­ple along the way— from foot­ball gr eats to mu­sic leg­ends to iconic ac­tors and ac­tresses. Sixty ( yes 60!) cov­ers of HI Lux­ury, we had no idea of how much mo­men­tum it would build . To this day, HILux­ury con­tin­ues to be a wel­come read for those look­ing for the best that Hawai‘ i has to of fer.

Yes, here we are, 10 years later, and we are hon­ored to have Mark Rolf­ing on our cover, as he truly is a gen­tle­man and scholar. Mark has al­ways ex­uded warmth, courage and kind­ness to celebri­ties, fa­mous golfers to any­one he meets, car­ry­ing the aloha spirit with him al­ways.

Thank you to our ad­ver­tis­ers, to our read­ers, to our great magazine team at Oahu Pub­li­ca­tions, to Den­nis Fran­cis and Dave Kennedy to trust our team with the grand priv­i­lege of put­ting this magazine to­gether. I also want to thank my hus­band, Michael and my dog, Mer­lin, for the love and un­der­stand­ing of my crazy life—my hav­ing to at­tend count­less fundrais­ers and par­ties, hav­ing to leave for end­less sales trips and al­ways be­ing there when I got home.
