Liv­ing a life of pas­sion, Olena Heu is pas­sion­ate about travel, de­li­cious food and most of all shar­ing pos­i­tiv­ity. Af­ter a decade of work­ing in ra­dio and tele­vi­sion news (the decade prior in food and bev­er­age) she ditched her day job for a life of self-em­ploy­ment, free­lance writ­ing and trav­el­ing. In this is­sue, Heu is thrilled to show­case a new con­tem­po­rary Hawai­ian restau­rant in Ka‘anapali. “Mauka Makai takes those fa­mil­iar fla­vors, iconic Hawai­ian dishes and trans­forms them; this res­onated with me as a homegrown kama‘aina,” she shares.
