Mo­tor­cy­cle rider crit­i­cal af­ter ac­ci­dent

A 35-year-old man was taken in crit­i­cal con­di­tion to a hospi­tal early Fri­day af­ter he was thrown from his mo­tor­cy­cle in Pearl City.

At about 1:20 a.m., po­lice said, the man was trav­el­ing west on Kame­hameha High­way just pass Kuala Street at a “high rate of speed.” He lost con­trol of his mo­tor­cy­cle, then veered onto a grassy me­dian and back onto the road­way when he was thrown from his mo­tor­cy­cle onto the road.

Po­lice said he was wear­ing a hel­met.

Ex­ces­sive speed was a fac­tor. It’s un­known whether al­co­hol was in­volved.

Po­lice shut down the high­way be­tween Kuala and Wai­hona streets to in­ves­ti­gate and re­opened the road­way at about

4:20 a.m.
