Hawai­ian Elec­tric warns of scams

Hawai­ian Elec­tric Com­pa­nies have be­gun a month­long cam­paign to alert cus­tomers about a re­cent spike in ag­gres­sive phone scams tar­get­ing cus­tomers.

The util­i­ties say the fol­low­ing are scams if:

>> A cus­tomer re­ceives a call from some­one say­ing they are from Hawai­ian Elec­tric, Maui Elec­tric or Hawaii Elec­tric Light de­mand­ing im­me­di­ate pay­ment over the phone or via pre­paid debit cards;

>> The caller says your ac­count is delin­quent and threat­ens to shut off your power im­me­di­ately un­less pay­ment is made;

>> The caller asks to meet you to pick up a pay­ment.
