Re­call ef­fort leader gets rape threat

3 SAN FRANCISCO >> A Stan­ford Univer­sity law pro­fes­sor who is lead­ing an ef­fort to re­call a judge over his han­dling of a high-pro­file sex­ual as­sault case re­ceived an en­ve­lope Wed­nes­day con­tain­ing white pow­der and a rape threat.

Emer­gency per­son­nel shut two rooms at the law school while they tested the sub­stance and de­ter­mined it was a harm­less “in­ert pow­der.”

The pro­fes­sor tar­geted in the threat, Michele Dauber, said the en­ve­lope was dis­guised as a party in­vi­ta­tion. Dauber is lead­ing an ef­fort to re­call Santa Clara County Su­pe­rior Court Judge Aaron Per­sky.

Per­sky was crit­i­cized in 2016 af­ter he sen­tenced for­mer swim­mer Brock Turner to six months in jail for rap­ing an un­con­scious woman on cam­pus near a fra­ter­nity house.
