The low­down: Ap­proved train­ers can earn $1,000 per horse or burro through the Mus­tang Her­itage Foun­da­tion’s ex­panded “Store­front” train­ing pro­gram. How it works: You must be able to gen­tle and train 10 or more wild mus­tangs or bur­ros at any one time, and have nec­es­sary fa­cil­i­ties, in­clud­ing 6-foot fences. Af­ter train­ing re­quire­ments are met, Store­front train­ers will re­ceive $1,000 for each an­i­mal placed into an adop­tive home. Clean out some used syringes and load them with ap­ple­sauce, syrup, or mo­lasses. Then, each day for sev­eral days be­fore a de­worm­ing, “sy­ringe” your horse with a treat. When it’s time to de­worm, put some of the treat on the out­side of the ac­tual de­worm­ing sy­ringe.
