Ok­la­homa’s First Cap­i­tal City

The town of Guthrie, among oth­ers in Ok­la­homa, sprang into ex­is­tence in 1889, when Pres­i­dent Ben­jamin Har­ri­son signed a procla­ma­tion open­ing the Unas­signed Lands in In­dian Ter­ri­tory to non-In­dian set­tlers. It was Ok­la­homa’s cap­i­tal from 1907 un­til 1910.
