Oklahoma ends Texas’ 19-game winning streak

NORMAN, Okla. — Texas had no intention of leaving Oklahoma’s best 3-point shooter alone in the corner, but with two seconds left, Peyton Little found herself alone and knocked down a shot that broke a 70-all tie, and Nancy Mulkey hit a free throw as the No. 19 Sooners vaulted past No. 8 Texas 74-73 on Saturday.

Oklahoma won its fifth straight and its seventh straight at home against Texas, which had won 19 consecutiv­e games before Saturday.

Brooke McCarty scored 16 points for the Longhorns in a game marked by 16 lead changes. Kelsey Lang added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Ariel Atkins scored 11 points for Texas (21-5, 14-1 Big 12).

“I think they’re disappoint­ed. They should be,” Texas coach Karen Aston said. “I’m disappoint­ed for them and disappoint­ed that we didn’t play better today.”

Little finished with 15 points, one of four Sooners (21-6, 12-3) in double figures.

Vionise Pierre-Louis scored a team-high 21 points off the bench for the Sooners.

“We knew they’d have to chase (Little) out in the corner, and if they didn’t, she would have it,” Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale said of the late 3-pointer. UCONN 63, TULANE 60

Napheesa Collier had 26 points and 12 rebounds as the top-ranked Huskies held off the Green Wave in New Orleans.

Connecticu­t (26-0, 13-0 American Athletic) pushed its record winning streak to 101 consecutiv­e games.

Katie Lou Samuelson scored 15 consecutiv­e UConn points in a second-half spurt and finished with 17. Gabby Williams added 14 rebounds for the Huskies.

Kolby Morgan led Tulane (16-11, 7-7) with 19 points. BAYLOR 89 OKLAHOMA ST. 67

Nina Davis had a season-high 23 points along with 10 rebounds as the fourth-ranked Lady Bears downed the visiting Cowgirls to move back into a share of first place in the Big 12 Conference.

Kalani Brown had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Baylor (25-2, 14-1).

In Fort Worth, Kindred Wesemann scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter to rally the No. 24 Wildcats past the Horned Frogs.

Amy Okonkwo had a career-high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting with 10 rebounds for the Horned Frogs (12-14, 4-11 Big 12).

Kaylee Page added 15 points for the Wildcats (19-8, 9-6 Big 12). RICE 80, UTEP 76

Maya Hawkins scored a season-high 25 points and Nicole Iademarco added a career-high 23 points to help lead the Owls over the Miners in El Paso.

Rice (16-9, 7-7) clinched a berth in the C-USA tournament and won its fourth consecutiv­e conference game.

Rice’s 16 victories on the season are the most since the 2011-12 season.

“That was another relentless team win,” Rice coach Tina Langley said.

The Cardinals overcame a double-digit deficit to clinch a first-round bye in the Southland Conference tournament with a victory over the host Islanders.

Kiara Desamours had 14 points to lead Lamar (19-6, 12-3 Southland).

The visiting Golden Lions (12-13, 9-5 SWAC) scored 19 of the first 21 points of the fourth quarter as they beat the Lady Tigers.

The Bearkats put three players in double figures, but could not withstand a three-point barrage from the Cardinals in a loss at the McDermott Convocatio­n Center in San Antonio.

In Conway, Ark., freshman guard Shannon Jones led the Huskies (5-19, 3-11 SLC) with eight point in a loss to the Sugar Bears.

Jeronia Allen’s careerhigh 29 points led five Lady Panthers (9-16, 4-9 SWAC) in double figures in a home victory.
