1928-2017

-

Robert Philip Scott, 88, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on February 14, 2017. Bob was born December 14, 1928 in Wichita, Kansas to Homer and Mary Gardner Scott. Burial will be at Pinecrest Cemetery in Mena, Arkansas on Monday, February 20 at 1 pm. A memorial service will be held at Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at 11 am on Tuesday, February 21.

Bob grew up in Tulsa and graduated from The University of Tulsa with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering. He worked for Marathon Oil Company as a Petroleum Engineer and then as an executive in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Ohio as well as in London, England; Dublin, Ireland; and Jakarta, Indonesia. Bob retired as the District Manager for Marathon Oil Company’s Permian Basin District in 1984. He spent his retirement years in Lake City, Colorado; Rogers and Bella Vista, Arkansas; and Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was an active member of his communities, including the St. James Episcopal Church in Lake City, Colorado.

Bob was the consummate engineer who either already understood how everything worked or figured it out. There was nothing he couldn’t build or repair and he was a skilled woodworker. Although he had little natural talent for music, he spent many years of his retirement volunteering to restore antique pump organs for churches. He would sometimes spend a year rebuilding and renewing a single organ, often making new parts to replace lost or damaged ones. While in Lake City, Bob was part of a group of volunteers who restored a caboose from the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad for display at the Hinsdale County Museum. Most recently, he spent many hours restoring his collection of 19th Century British woodworking tools. Throughout his life, Bob had a passion and a deep, strong voice for lay reading in the Episcopal Church.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Ted, his identical twin, Bill and grandson, Joshua Carter. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy of Tulsa; sons Bob Scott and wife Susan Bickley of Houston, TX, and Bill Scott and wife Sandy of Midland, TX; daughters Cathie Party and husband Mike of Midland, TX and Merry Stanley of Midland, TX; stepdaughters Kaye Carter and husband Tom, and Carole Berrigan of Tulsa; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In his final year, he received loving care from Nancy and a devoted staff at St. Simeon’s Memory Care Center, in Tulsa.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Broken Arrow, OK (www.saintpatricks.com).
