Recruiting officers
Regarding “Border Patrol’s rodeo visit called ‘kind of rude’ (Page A3, March 20), the fact is that the Customs and Border Patrol has been there each day since the beginning of the rodeo, and it would have been wrong for it to consider “Go Tejano Day” any different, as if citizens did not attend on that day. Its purpose was solely focused on recruitment, which is a positive activity for any interested American.
Any fear felt over this innocuous presence is misdirected and that some found this year’s “troubling” (it was present last year, too) is undeserved.
I imagine that attendees who have committed crimes may have been put off by the sheriff ’s office recruiting table, which is in a more conspicuous location. Should we feel sensitive about this “visit,” too? Robert Baldwin, Cypress
