Spring brings thoughts of home improvements
Spring and summer are a great time to make your home more comfortable.
“During this time of year, many people think about updating their homes, and the bath is usually a focus. Plus, in the bath, even small changes make a big difference,” said Peggy West, broker-owner of Peggy West Properties Inc., a real estate luxury home boutique.
Today, the average midrange bath remodel job costs between $18,000 to $55,000. But again, there are plenty of smaller projects that cost less and add big enjoyment.
For example, consider changing the vanity or toilet.
It can make a world of difference. Check out Restoration Hardware, Home Depot or Lowe’s for some classy-looking, modern vanities.
Taller folks or seniors will really enjoy replacing toilets with a higher version. A few extra inches to the height adds a lot of comfort and a fresh, new look.
“Light fixtures date the bathroom. If you are thinking of replacing old fixtures, consider location. Mount your lights on either side of the mirror for a reflection without overhead shadows,” West said.
Remember to pick up LED lights bulbs for electricity savings. The equivalent of 75 to 100 watt bulbs on either side provides better lighting for makeup or shaving.
In the shower, and space permitting, a freestanding resin stool might add an extra perk to your shower.
“A shower seat is a game changer. You may never have to shave your legs while balancing on just one leg again — flamingo style,” West said.
White and gray are still the colors of choice for so many homeowners. The same is true in the bath. It is a winning combination for new homes and older ones.
Fresh paint and new hardware make a world of difference in the bath. New fluffy towels and fragrant soaps add that spa feel to this important room.
West has been in real estate for over three decades, and whether representing a buyer or seller, her skillful handling and keen negotiating skills keep customers coming back. Nearly 85 percent of West’s business is from former clients and referrals.
