Stop the appeal
Regarding “Harris County will fight judge’s bail reform ruling” (Page A3, May 10), it is inconceivable that our county Commissioners Court would vote to appeal the judge’s order to release the eligible inmates. Even worse is the hundreds of thousands of dollars of county money they are spending to fight this humane and just ruling.
Our bail system has been ruled unconstitutional. No one should be kept in jail on misdemeanor charges because they can’t afford bail. Now is the time to right this wrong. Commissioners Court needs to drop their objections and get on board to help steer a course towards a more equitable justice system in Harris County. Margaret Sweeney, Houston
