Texas Tech clinches share of Big 12 championsh­ip

LUBBOCK — Grant Little went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, Josh Jung added two RBIs, and No. 4 Texas Tech beat Kansas 9-4 on Saturday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep and claim a share of the Big 12 regular-season championsh­ip.

Jose Quezada tossed two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for the Red Raiders (42-13, 168), which finished tied for first with No. 6 TCU. ARKANSAS 8, TEXAS A&M 0

The No. 23 Aggies wrapped up the regular season with a loss to the 16th-ranked Razorbacks at Blue Bell Park in College Station.

Nick Choruby led Texas A&M (36-20, 16-14 Southeaste­rn Conference) at the plate, going 2-for-4.

Stephen Kolek (3-4) was saddled with the loss. He allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three in four innings.

Blaine Knight earned the win for Arkansas, scattering three hits while striking out two in six innings. UAB 9, RICE 4

The Owls battled for four late runs in the finale of the Conference USA series, but lightning stormed into the Birmingham, Ala., area to end the contest with the Blazers claiming a win after seven innings.

Jonah Davis and Cameron Eden homered, and the Golden Bears prevented the No. 6 Horned Frogs from earning a sweep of the teams’ three-game series at Berkeley, Calif.

Texas Southern will face defending Southweste­rn Athletic Conference champion Alabama State in the league title game at 11 a.m. Sunday in New Orleans.

Both teams enter the championsh­ip game not having lost in the tournament.

Alabama State is seeking to become the first back-to-back champion since Jackson State pulled off the feat from 2013-14. TSU is looking to win its second championsh­ip in three seasons, having won its last in 2015. Sunday’s final will mark the third consecutiv­e year TSU has made it to the title game.
