Purse snatcher puts 90-year-old in hospital

Houston Chronicle Sunday - - CITY | STATE -

A 90-year-old woman spent two days in a hospital after a robber stole her purse outside an Albertsons in North Texas on Monday afternoon.

The Crowley woman was loading groceries into the trunk of her vehicle at the store near Interstate 35 about 1:30 p.m. A man walked up, grabbed her purse and ran away, Burleson police said.

During the incident, she tried to hang on to her purse and fell down. She struck her head on the pavement, which knocked her unconscious.

The woman, who didn’t want her name used, is back home now trying to recover from bruises along much of the left side of her body.

“I’m 90 years old, and I just really didn’t ever expect anything like this,” she said.

Police distributed photos of the getaway car in hopes of finding the robber. If they do, the woman said she’s not worried about the money. She really wants a photo of her late husband back that she kept in her purse.
