Social-media-friendly engagement shoots a fun way to get the big news out

- By Amber Elliott amber.elliott@chron.com

Wedding announcements are so last generation — depending on whom you ask.

Millennials might argue that going the traditional route is costly and timeconsuming. Plus, there’s no guarantee that all of one’s followers — er, friends? — will receive the big news.

“I would say that 80 to 90 percent of couples are doing engagement photo shoots nowadays,” photographer Daniel T. Davis says. “A lot of it has to do with social media; it’s an easy way to reach people.”

Love or hate the engagement-shoot trend, two things are for certain: The photos are Facebook-friendly and decidedly more personal than a formal portrait.

“Gone are the days of filters and excessive edits. Capturing couples in real life having fun is hot right now,” says Jonathan Foster of Jonathan Ivy Photography. “Highlighting intimacy and the relationship is trending, faking it and being over the top are out!”

For a Pinterest-worthy shot, here are the best hashtag #nofilter spots around town.
