No. 8 Texas Tech takes down No. 2 West Virginia

LUBBOCK — Keenan Evans scored 20 points, Brandone Francis had a career-high 17, and No. 8 Texas Tech won the first top-10 matchup on its home court, beating second-ranked West Virginia 72-71 on Saturday.

Evans hit a lean-in jumper to give the Red Raiders (15-2, 4-1 Big 12) a four-point lead in the final minute and send the first sellout crowd of the season into a frenzy. The Mountainee­rs had their nation-leading 15-game winning streak stopped.

Jevon Carter scored 28 points — one off his career high — for West Virginia (15-2, 4-1).

Freshman Zhaire Smith’s alley-oop dunk sparked a 12-2 run to help the Red Raiders wipe out an 11-point deficit in the second half. Smith had nine points and eight rebounds.

Francis, a junior transfer from Florida whose only previous double-digit game was 10 in a 34-point blowout over Savannah State, hit two go-ahead jumpers in the closing minutes.

There were three lead changes and three ties late in the second half before Niem Stevenson hit two free throws to put the Red Raiders in front for good with 2:07 remaining. OKLAHOMA 102, TCU 97

Trae Young scored 29 of his 43 points after halftime, and the No. 9 Sooners defeated the No. 16 Horned Frogs in overtime at Norman, Okla.

Young, the freshman who leads the nation in scoring and assists, also had 11 rebounds and seven assists. Brady Manek added 22 points for the Sooners (14-2, 4-1 Big 12), who made a school-record 19 3-pointers.

It was Young’s second dominant performanc­e against TCU this season. He had 39 points and 14 assists and made the game-winning free throws with seven seconds left in a 90-89 win over TCU on Dec. 30.

Jaylen Fisher had a career-high 22 points for TCU (13-4, 1-4), which lost its second overtime game of the week. IOWA ST. 75, BAYLOR 65 Freshman Lindell Wigginton scored a careerhigh 30 points, and the Cyclones beat the Bears in Ames, Iowa, to snap a four-game losing streak.

Nick Weiler-Babb added 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for Iowa State (10-6, 1-4 Big 12), which picked up its first league win while beating Baylor (11-6, 1-4) for the 14th time in 16 tries at home. OKLAHOMA ST. 65 TEXAS 64

Oklahoma State outscored Texas 15-2 over the final 5:39 to pull out the unlikely triumph.

Eric Davis Jr. scored 18 points, while Dylan Osetowski had 12 points and nine rebounds for Texas (11-6, 2-3 Big 12).
