Political endorsements

Houston Chronicle Sunday - - OUTLOOK -

Regarding “We judge Houston’s judges so you can vote with ease” (Outlook, Thursday): While I appreciate the Chronicle editorial board judging judges for its readers, I disagree with the suggestion that we should allow the editorial board to do the hard thinking and just “vote with ease.” While the board’s thinking and judgment are important and valuable in deciding who to vote for, that should be the beginning, not the end, of our process.

If there are qualified candidates, we should do our own independent thinking, seeking additional reliable sources of information, and make the hard choice of who has earned our votes. Allowing anyone, including the editorial board, to do our thinking for us may be easy, but it is rarely wise. Jim Greenwood, Houston
