John C. Fontana, Jr., age 66, passed away at his home on December 22, 2020. John was a native Houstonian, raised in Memorial and educated in catholic schools including his beloved Strake Jesuit and St. Edwards University. He attended the business school at the University of Texas at Austin and became a successful commercial real estate developer. A great athlete all his life, John followed his real estate career by becoming a PGA golf profession­al and popular golf teacher in Houston, TX.

Besides his passion for business, sports and music - we all remember the Steely Dan years - John’s primary value and love were his family and friends. He adored his son, Ryan Matthew Fontana, Ryan’s beloved wife, Kaitlyn and his beautiful grandchild­ren Parker Ann and Mason Matthew. All of his life he was close to his sisters, Cynthia,

Barbara, and Jacquie and enjoyed a relationsh­ip of great love and respect with his parents. All of his loved ones and friends brought him immense joy, pride, and love, including Martha Fontana, Lucy Ellis, nieces and nephews Rody and Mark Grant, Wendy Grant, and their spouses and children, as well as his longtime friends from his childhood and high school years.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John and Rose Fontana, and his sister, Barbara Fontana Bean, and his uncle Robert Fontana, from Nice, France.

John’s life will be celebrated at a socially distant memorial mass which will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 5, 2021, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX, 77079. Masks will be required. Please note we will not be live streaming this service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
