Two men were killed dead and four people were injured after a shooting outside of northeast Harris County apartments on Sunday night.

An unknown suspect fired 15 to 18 shots into a group of people near the Haverstock Hill apartments on Aldine Bender Road, said Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Gilliland. One man died at the scene, and one man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Two of the four wounded people are women, and two are men. They are all in critical but stable condition, Gilliland said. One of the women was shot in the lower leg, he said.

Deputies came to the scene at about 6:30 p.m. Witnesses said three people came to the apartments in a white car, and one exited the vehicle, firing into the group with a rifle, Gilliland said.

The car then drove away in an unknown direction while chaos broke out in the complex.

“People were running everywhere,” he said.

Edward Buford, pastor at Sonrise Community Church, said he was “frustrated” by the continued violence in this neighborhood.

“We need to put money into places like this,” he said, steps away from a playground on the property.
