Art of the deal
Regarding “G6 plus Trump” (Page A31, Sunday), the editorial allows me the opportunity to set a few things straight. First, G-7 had very little to do with winning the Cold War. Let’s give that credit to President Ronald Reagan’s skillful and determined actions to expose the Soviet Union’s faltering economy and cause its ultimate collapse.
As for President Trump’s “harmful tariff,” ask U.S. steel and aluminum producers how harmful they’ve been. G-7 members and Middle East nations have been the recipients of U.S. largess in loans, financial aid, wars of liberation and military support for a hundred years, and they know that Trump wants to level the trade gap. And they all scream foul.
Trump takes $1 a year in salary, so how does this factor in to the stereotype that all he cares about is money?
As for China, the “trade menace,” stay tuned for the other shoe to fall. Carlos Dos Santos, Kingwood
