Man fatally shot in home invasion

A man was shot and killed Wednesday night during a home invasion and carjacking in the Independence Heights neighborhood, Houston police said.

Houston officers were called out to a home in the 400 block of East Delz Drive around 9:30 p.m. to the reported shooting.

When they arrived, they found a man, identified as 35-year-old John Edwards, dead inside the doorway of his home.

He had multiple gunshot wounds, and there were no signs of forced entry, police said.

Police said witnesses saw two to four people enter the home before hearing gunshots.

The intruders left in a darkcolored black or red four-door sedan. They also took the man’s 2009 white Dodge Ram pickup with no tailgate. The pickup has a Texas license plate number FTP7410, police said.
