No other action camera maker sells more units around the world than Gopro. In 2014, 5.2 million were sold in the U.S. alone. Total sales for that year came to $1.4 billion. The newest Gopro camera, the HERO4, costs around $450 and can be used anywhere on Earth— and not only there. Austrian BASE jumper Felix Baumgartner was equipped with seven Gopro HERO2 cameras when he jumped through the stratosphere 24 miles above New Mexico on October 14, 2012. One great advantage of an action camera: A Gopro is barely bigger than a matchbox and its plastic casing is both water- and shockproof. It’s considered unbreakable. However, its users are not. Some extreme athletes ended up filming their own death.
