Though their con­sti­tu­tion still can’t be ex­actly de­ter­mined, much is known about the sur­face com­po­si­tion and the in­ner work­ings of moons. In 2022 the ESA probe JUICE (Jupiter ICY moons Ex­plorer) will an­a­lyze con­di­tions for life on the Jo­vian moons Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Cost: around $380 mil­lion.
