Mass will com­mence at 10 a.m. Fri­day, March 24 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Cen­tro for Maria Luisa Ser­rato who passed away Monday, March 6 in her El Cen­tro home fol­low­ing a long ill­ness. Burial will fol­low at Ever­green Ceme­tery.

Maria was born Jan­uary 20, 1941 in Sonora, Mex­ico. She worked at Washington El­e­men­tary School for twenty years, thirty years ago, as a teacher’s aide. Maria en­joyed playing soft­ball most of her life. She played semi-pro soft­ball and vol­ley­ball in Mex­ico in her ear­lier years. She loved life, her fam­ily and friends.

Maria is sur­vived by her chil­dren: So­nia Her­rera of Chula Vista, CA, Sal­vador Ser­rato Jr. of San Diego, and Su­sana Vil­le­gas of El Cen­tro; sis­ter, Am­paro An­gel; brothers, Basilio Bel­tran and Pe­dro Bel­tran; grand­chil­dren, Van­nezza Vil­le­gas-Poole, Veron­ica Vil­le­gas, An­thony Her­rera, and Misty Lynn Ser­rato; and one great-grand­daugh­ter, Saniyah Vil­le­gas- Poole.
