DUI check­point nets sev­eral ar­rests

The El Cen­tro Po­lice Depart­ment con­ducted two DUI/ driver’s li­cense check­points re­cently which net­ted one DUI ar­rest, cited or ar­rested six driv­ers for driv­ing with­out a li- cense and is­sued six ci­ta­tions.

Also dur­ing the Aug. 31 and Satur­day check­points, po­lice screened 603 ve­hi­cles, ad­min­is­tered 12 field so­bri­ety tests.

The po­lice depart­ment also an­nounced it will be de­ploy­ing ad­di­tional of­fi­cers in the field over this com­ing weekend in a con­tin­ued ef­fort to lower deaths and in­juries upon the city’s streets and high­ways.

Driv­ers caught driv­ing im­paired can ex­pect the im­pact of a DUI ar­rest to in­clude jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, li­cense suspension and other ex­penses that can ex­ceed $10,000.
