Rafael A. Luera, 89 of El Centro, CA passed away of nat­u­ral causes on Satur­day, September 9, 2017.

Mr. Rafael Luera was born De­cem­ber 22, 1927 in Aqua Calientes, MX. He met his fu­ture wife Jessie, in San Fer­nando, CA and moved to Calex­ico, CA in 1962 where they raised their eight chil­dren. They later moved to Las Ve­gas, NV, where they owned and op­er­ated a land­scap­ing busi­ness for 15 years. The cou­ple re­turned to the Val­ley in 1998.

Mr. Luera es­tab­lished his own small land­scap­ing com­pany named Luera Land­scap­ing in Las Ve­gas, NV in the year 1982.

Mr. Luera and his wife were proud and ac­tive mem­bers of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro. They self­lessly gave their time and en­ergy in rais­ing funds for the church and sup­port­ing it when­ever pos­si­ble.

He es­pe­cially en­joyed and sup­ported his sons by coach­ing lit­tle league and was a life long Los Angeles Dodgers fan. His pas­sion for the game was the rea­son that he got into coach­ing. He and his wife en­joyed danc­ing, trav­el­ling and spend­ing time with fam­ily and friends. His beloved part­ner passed away in 2000, and they are now re­united in eter­nal peace.

He was pre­ceded in death by his wife, Jessie Luera; sons, Ar­mando and Ed­uardo Luera; grand­daugh­ter, Franch­esca Va­len­cia and son-in-law Jim Har­ris.

He is sur­vived by his daugh­ters, Mary Har­ris, Is­abel Va­len­cia-Luera, Jessie (Jose) De Los San­tos; sons, Ralph Luera, Joe (Maria) Luera, Rigo (Meyslim) Luera; 17 grand­chil­dren and 27 great- grand­chil­dren.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be held on Tues­day, September 19, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro, CA. Ser­vice will be held on Wed­nes­day, September 20, 2017 at 8 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro, CA. Burial will im­me­di­ately fol­low at Moun­tain View Ceme­tery in Calex­ico, CA.
