Judge OKs sale of Ti­tans of Mav­er­icks as­sets

A bank­ruptcy judge has ap­proved the sale of as­sets owned by the or­ga­niz­ers of the Ti­tans of Mav­er­icks big wave surf con­test in North­ern Cal­i­for­nia.

The Santa Cruz Sen­tinel reports (http://bit.ly/2xbF6WG ) U.S. Bank­ruptcy Judge Deb­o­rah Saltz­man ruled Fri­day that Car­tel Man­age­ment, Inc., which owns Ti­tans of Mav­er­icks LLC, can sell Ti­tans as­sets to the World Surf League for $525,000.

The de­ci­sion will al­low the WSL to add Mav­er­ick’s to its Big Wave Tour cal­en­dar, pos­si­bly as soon as this win­ter, once it ac­quires the nec­es­sary per­mits.

The con­test is held an­nu­ally in 25-foot-plus waves at the at the Mav­er­ick’s break near Pil­lar Point in Half Moon Bay. The con­test win­dow runs from Nov. 1 through March 31. The WSL pro­duces some of the world’s best-known surf con­tests.
