A va­cant res­i­dence was re­ported on fire at about 2:55 a.m. Mon­day in the 1100 block of South 14th Street, the El Cen­tro Fire De­part­ment re­ported.

Re­spond­ing fire­fight­ers ob­served smoke com­ing from the res­i­dence’s roof, and sub­se­quently dis­cov­ered heavy smoke and fire in a bed­room and hall­way area, the ECFD re­ported.

A sec­ond alarm was re­quested by the in­ci­dent com­man­der, re­sult­ing in the fire be­ing ex­tin­guished within min­utes of the in­ci­dent be­ing re­ported, the ECFD re­ported.

Fire crews re­mained on scene un­til 5:30 a.m. Mon­day. A to­tal of 16 fire­fight­ers from El Cen­tro and the Im­pe­rial County Fire De­part­ment brought the fire un­der con­trol with no in­juries to civil­ians or fire­fight­ers.

The Im­pe­rial County Chap­ter of the Amer­i­can Red Cross, the Im­pe­rial Ir­ri­ga­tion District, El Cen­tro Po­lice De­part­ment, Gold Cross Am­bu­lance, and South­ern Cal­i­for­nia Gas pro­vided sup­port dur­ing the in­ci­dent. El Cen­tro Fire De­part­ment In­ves­ti­ga­tors are cur­rently work­ing to de­ter­mine the cause.
