A vacant residence was reported on fire at about 2:55 a.m. Monday in the 1100 block of South 14th Street, the El Centro Fire Department reported.
Responding firefighters observed smoke coming from the residence’s roof, and subsequently discovered heavy smoke and fire in a bedroom and hallway area, the ECFD reported.
A second alarm was requested by the incident commander, resulting in the fire being extinguished within minutes of the incident being reported, the ECFD reported.
Fire crews remained on scene until 5:30 a.m. Monday. A total of 16 firefighters from El Centro and the Imperial County Fire Department brought the fire under control with no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The Imperial County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Imperial Irrigation District, El Centro Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, and Southern California Gas provided support during the incident. El Centro Fire Department Investigators are currently working to determine the cause.
