Man arrested after robbery.
An individual was apprehended Tuesday evening in southern Mexicali after a bank robbery, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
Authorities said the suspect was identified as Mario “Doe,” 35.
The incident was reported at 7:50 p.m. at Bancoppel bank located at Santa Isabel Avenue and Gómez Morín Boulevard.
An employee told officers the suspect allegedly arrived at the scene and brandished a firearm to demand cash.
The cashier gave the suspect 35,000 pesos or $1,966.
The suspect fled on foot, the police said.
Police officers began searching the area and found a man who matched the description provided by witnesses at Gómez Morín Boulevard and Checoslovaquia Street at Colonia Los Olivos neighborhood.
Authorities said neither the cash nor the gun were located.
The suspect was transported to the police headquarters.
