Harvested shrimp production reported

Imperial Valley Press - - NEWS -

Last year, Mexicali Valley shrimp producers reported a total production of 42.86 tons, according to a state agency.

The Department of Fishing said the production was reported in the region’s 14 shrimp farms, where 6.2 million larvae were “planted” and half of them survived.

Secretary of Fishing Matias Arjona Rydalch said the growing of shrimp in rural farms represent an opportunity of growth for many families.

However, producers need discipline and commitment for the activity to obtain higher returns, he said.

The 2018 harvesting season begins in May, and the state plans to provide producers technical support and subsidies, as well as training and help with shrimp marketing.
