The death of a 24-year-old man who died during the weekend allowed authorities to register the second organ donation of the year in Mexicali’s General Hospital.

State Transplant Council President Edgar Castillo said doctors took from the deceased individual both kidneys, his liver and corneas.

The kidneys were transplanted at the hospital to a 49-year-old woman and a 60-yearold man.

Authorities said the liver was airlifted to Toluca Airport and eventually transported to the Siglo 21 National Medical Center in Mexi- co City.

Castillo said the agency expects to end the year with 20 tissue transplants, for which the local hospital will hire the first liver expert in the state.

Authorities said an organ donor can save up to eight lives.
