Retired teachers get payment
After a week of strike and demonstrations retired teachers began Thursday getting their October retirement payments.
In a press release, the state said teachers started to get their full payment.
The state disbursed 247.3 million pesos, or $13.3 million.
“The state administration manifests its respect to the rights acquired by education workers and is in solidarity with their petitions,” the state said in the release. “We offer our whole willingness to work and collaborate with the unions.”
Both the Local 37 of the National Education Workers’ Union and the State Education Workers Union announced the return to school for Friday.
According to the state, more than 220,000 students in 959 schools were impacted by the suspension of classes that began Oct. 31.
