Re­tired teach­ers get pay­ment

Af­ter a week of strike and demon­stra­tions re­tired teach­ers be­gan Thurs­day get­ting their Oc­to­ber re­tire­ment pay­ments.

In a press re­lease, the state said teach­ers started to get their full pay­ment.

The state dis­bursed 247.3 mil­lion pe­sos, or $13.3 mil­lion.

“The state ad­min­is­tra­tion man­i­fests its re­spect to the rights ac­quired by ed­u­ca­tion work­ers and is in sol­i­dar­ity with their pe­ti­tions,” the state said in the re­lease. “We of­fer our whole will­ing­ness to work and col­lab­o­rate with the unions.”

Both the Lo­cal 37 of the Na­tional Ed­u­ca­tion Work­ers’ Union and the State Ed­u­ca­tion Work­ers Union an­nounced the re­turn to school for Fri­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the state, more than 220,000 stu­dents in 959 schools were im­pacted by the sus­pen­sion of classes that be­gan Oct. 31.
