CARE TO DANCE?
It’s the biggest event of the year for high school students all over the country, but proms really were nights they wi these overachievers made sure their
Prom season is in full swing, and these four teens have some unusual and amazing tales!
BEST STAND-IN
You can’t go wrong when you go to prom with a friend — especially if your friend happens to be Paris Jackson. The daughter of late pop icon Michael recently stepped in for her pal’s big night. “Only true friends dye their hair to match their gal’s prom gown,” Paris, 18, captioned a pic on Instagram. And only the best don a suit and strike a standard prom pose, as well!
WORST MISHAP
Many people have prom horror stories, but we’ve never heard of someone accidentally swallowing her date’s boutonniere pin. Until now. While trying to secure the flower on her date’s tux, Wellesley, Mass., senior Kathleen Garvey held the 1-anda-half-inch pin with her teeth … and unknowingly breathed it in. Not convinced she’d really swallowed the pin, Kathleen — feeling fine — continued onto the dance, went to an afterparty, slept at a friend’s house and got breakfast the next morning. It wasn’t until she got an X-ray that she discovered where the pin had ended up: her right bronchial tube. Amazingly, no damage had occurred and doctors were able to remove it.
BIGGEST COUP
Social media can work miracles. Millersville, Md., high schooler Stephen Bieber (no relation to Justin) was looking for a prom date and ended up scoring one with Washington Redskins cheerleader Christa Aiken. After Stephen reached out to Christa on her Instagram page back in March, Christa told Stephen he’d need “at least 10,000” people to retweet his prom-posal in order for her to show. He reached the total in just five days — and got to strut into prom with Christa on his arm. That’s what we’d call a V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!
BESTDRESSED
Your wish is my command! Back in January 2015, Buffalo, N.y.–based high school senior Jessica Casanova found the dress she wanted to wear to her prom. The only problem? It was a Badgley Mischka creation worn by actress Gina Rodriguez the night she won a Golden Globe for her role on Jane the Virgin. Taking a chance, Jessica tweeted Gina to tell her how much she’d love for it to be her prom gown — and a year and a half later, the actress, 31, made it happen. “I can’t thank Gina enough for what she did,” Jessica tells In Touch. “She made my night so unforgettable!”
