As part of a circus for more than five decades, Rhea (left) and Sita endured brutal treatment and neglect until they were rescued by Wildlife SOS. Sita was brought to the group’s conservation center in Mathura, India, in November 2015, and five months later, Rhea finally joined her. The pals were reunited “amid squeals of excitement and trunk-holding,” says Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS. “It was overwhelming that we had brought these gentle giants back together.”
