“The text messages and correspondence between him and Cathriona coming out now has just totally blown up his world,” says a source of the pair (seen together just four months before her 2015 suicide).

His insensitivity is shocking. In the middle of a 2012 text exchange about their deceased parents, Jim Carrey bluntly asks his then-girlfriend, Cathriona White, “Have you thought about my c--- today?” In other disturbing exchanges, Jim urges her to get the morning-after pill, dismisses her sexually transmitted disease fears, pressures her to sign a legal agreement and, finally, brands her “overly dramatic and ungrateful.” The troubled relationship ended in September 2015, when Cathriona killed herself at age 30.

Her estranged husband blames Jim for her death. Despite the actor’s likable persona as the star of such comedy hits as Dumb and Dumber and The Mask, Mark Burton contends the real Jim Carrey is a dark and cruel person. “There is a mountain of information that shows how Carrey treated Cat like garbage,” Mark exclusively tells In Touch, “and it will all come out.” But Mark has a motive for trashing Jim: money. Mark is suing Jim for wrongful death, and in a Sept. 19 filing alleges that the comedian illegally obtained prescription drugs under a false name, then gave them to his emotionally fragile on/off girlfriend — who killed herself by overdosing on a mix of some of his pills, including Ambien and painkillers — despite knowing she’d suffered from depression and had previously attempted suicide. Court papers also allege the star, 54, gave the Ireland native and makeup artist gonorrhea and two forms of herpes. Jim’s lawyer, Hollywood powerhouse Marty Singer, says, “The lawsuit against Jim Carrey is an outlandish shakedown.” He also says that Cathriona stole Jim’s prescriptions, which he obtained legally under an alias to protect his privacy and that Cathriona’s marriage to Mark was a “sham” to keep her in the country. The actor is outraged and has accused Mark of “shameful greed.” Still, the ordeal is taking its toll on Jim. “He’s still grieving her death and this lawsuit is just making matters worse,” says an insider.

Mark tells In Touch his motivation isn’t money. “I want the truth to come out. It is important that people begin to see Jim Carrey for what he is: a user of women who couldn’t care less about the way women are treated and discards them after he is done with them,” says the Oregon man, who also shared an emotional letter Cathriona wrote to Jim in which she reveals that after her STD diagnosis, she felt “disrespected, degraded, called a whore, Jim and Cathriona were clearly together in this 2013 Valentine’s Day photo while she had married Mark Burton just one month earlier, a marriage Jim’s people call a “sham.”
