Steven Avery’s lawyer isn’t just trying to get him out of prison, she’s writing his “Dear John” letters, too. “Please let this letter act as formal notice that Mr. Avery terminated his engagement with you effective October 2,” reads a missive dated Oct. 3 from renowned attorney Kathleen Zellner to the Making a Murderer star’s now-former fiancée Lynn Hartman, which was exclusively obtained by In Touch. Zellner, who is working on getting Steven’s 2005 murder conviction overturned, also warns the Las Vegas secretary that her ex will take legal action if she talks about their romance or his case, which was made famous by the Netflix documentary. Steven, 54, began a relationship with Lynn eight months ago after she wrote to him at Wisconsin’s Waupun Correctional Institution, where he’s serving a life sentence, and he told In Touch in August that he planned to marry her when he got out: “It feels right.” But in an Oct. 1 Facebook post, Steven’s ex-girlfriend Sandra Greenman announced that the wedding was off, blaming Lynn’s decision to do an interview with Dr. Phil and calling her a “gold digger.” (Lynn said “no comment” when contacted by In Touch.) Note to Steven: Maybe put your love life on hold while you focus on proving your innocence!
