Jennifer Aniston’s insecurities flare up over Justin Theroux’s close relationship with Amy Sedaris

She knew they’d been good friends for years. But when Justin Theroux, 45, told Jennifer Aniston he’d chosen his longtime best friend, Amy Sedaris, to be one of his groomsmen at their August 2015 wedding, “Jen was floored,” says a friend. “She wanted Justin to be happy, but part of her couldn’t help but be suspicious that he wanted another woman to stand next to him on their wedding day.”

That suspicion has never gone away. In Touch has learned that Jen, 47, has never been comfortable with Justin’s more than 15-year friendship with Amy, 55 — and Jen’s jealousy has gotten even worse. “She just doesn’t get the Justin-amy best friend arrangement,” explains the friend. “She’s incredibly jealous of the whole setup and is always afraid that something more is going on than joking around when the two get together. Justin says she is his dearest female friend and that’s it, but Jen is incredibly threatened by Amy.”

And Jen’s made it known. “After they got married, she told Justin she wanted him to end the phone calls with Amy. But it never happened,” says the friend. “And now he’s closer to Amy than ever. They’re always trading Instagram messages and Jen’s grown resentful that Justin spends more time com- municating with Amy when he’s on location than with his own wife. Jen feels she should be his go-to call at the end of the day, not Amy.”

Justin has always felt a strong connection with Amy. The Strangers With Candy star met Justin in the early 2000s when she was waitressing at a restaurant Justin used to frequent with his late friend and co-star Philip Seymour Hoffman. “Amy was a key part of Justin’s life for a good decade before he got close with Jen,” says the friend, explaining that the kindred spirits quickly became BFFS and later worked together on a few projects. “They have a special bond.”

That bond often leaves Jen feeling left out — and jealous. “Justin and Amy are comedy buddies who riff off each other’s funny lines and observations in a way that Justin’s never been able to do with Jen,” says the friend. “Jen can’t stand not being in on the joke. It’s like Justin and Amy have their own little world and she’s not invited.” Jen has confronted Justin about it. “She’s asked him more than once if he and Amy were lovers at one point, and he’s denied it every time,” says the friend. “While Amy’s not a classic beauty, she has a warmth and humor that make her incredibly attractive. That’s not lost on Jen.”

Jen wants her husband all to herself, especially now that he’s away working yet again. “Jen just doesn’t feel like she’s No. 1 in Justin’s life,” explains the friend (see sidebar). “And with their marriage currently on shaky ground,” she’s at the point where she’s ready to tell Justin, she’s done feeling like his No. 2 girl. ◼

SEEING RED “It really drives Jen up the wall when she finds Justin laughing and carrying on on the phone with Amy,” says a friend.

SPECIAL BOND Amy (with Justin in 2006) “was in the picture way before Jen ever came around,” says the friend. “They understand each other.”
