Meaculpaoftheweek BY THE BELL MARK-PAUL APOLOGIZES FOR SAVED EPISODE — 26 YEARS LATER

Is it too late now to say sorry? Not for Mark-paul Gosselaar, who played Zack on Saved by the Bell from 1989 to ’92. The 42-year-old is apologizing for a 1990 episode that showed Zack discovering he had Native American ancestry. “He gives a ‘presentation’ that consists of putting war paint on Screech and giving him a toy tomahawk [and] doesn’t get in trouble for this completely racist presentation,” the Pitch star recently recalled. Later, Zack dons “face paint and a headdress” (pictured) to illustrate he takes his ancestry seriously. Groans the actor: “That’s another ‘I’m sorry’ moment!”
