Is Scientology Fading?

In Touch (USA) - - Newsflash -

Tom’s beloved religion isn’t as popular as it once was, according to a report on Scientology critic Tony Ortega’s website, The Underground Bunker. While church leadership claims its worldwide membership is 10 million, a recent defector named Peter Nyiri, who had access to enrollment documents at Scientology headquarters, told Ortega that he agreed with fellow defector and former high-level executive Paul Burkhart’s estimate that current membership is likely as low as 20,000. Though a Scientology rep says, “these are nonsensical claims,” more and more ex-scientologists are speaking out, too. Leah Remini’s reality series, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, has shined a light on the church’s alleged abuses, and after her show won an Emmy on Sept. 10, actress Nazanin Boniadi, who once reportedly auditioned to be Tom’s wife, tweeted “Congratulations.” “The LA Celebrity Centre can hardly even keep a staff together,” Ortega tells In Touch. “It’s a ghost town.”
