The Spy Who Dumped Me FRI. 8/3, R ★★★★✩
Best friends Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate Mckinnon) are on the run from assassins after Audrey’s spy ex-boyfriend (Justin Theroux) draws them into an international conspiracy. Mila and Kate are a dream team in this outrageous action-comedy, which also has a charming turn from Sam Heughan.
The Darkest Minds FRI. 8/3, PG-13 (NOT SCREENED BY DEADLINE)
After a governmentinduced epidemic kills almost all of America’s children, the surviving kids are deemed dangerous and sequestered in a rehab camp. But Ruby (Amandla Stenberg) discovers her superpowers and leads a youth revolution. Based on the YA book, this adaptation will appeal to fans of The Maze Runner and X-men.
Christopher Robin FRI. 8/3, PG (NOT SCREENED BY DEADLINE)
Now an adult with a family of his own, Christopher Robin (Ewan Mcgregor) has lost touch with what’s truly important in life. Seems like a good time for a visit from his stuffed-animal childhood pals, Winnie-the-Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet and the Hundred Acre Wood crew! This live-action take on author A.A. Milne’s classic characters promises warmth and wit.
Never Goin’ Back FRI. 8/3, R ★★★✩✩
Spring Breakers meets Superbad! Dreaming of a beach vacation, two hard-partying diner waitresses ( The Fosters’ Maia Mitchell and Camila Morrone) scheme to make the rent after their roommate gets robbed in a drug scam. Set in Texas, this bawdy buddy comedy would seem bleak — if everyone involved (especially our exasperating but entertaining heroines) didn’t seem to have so much fun.
