Next, I blocked in the color of the com­po­si­tion. I low­ered the opac­ity of the line sketch and placed it on the top­most layer in the stack, block­ing in color on the layer be­low it. You can ro­tate the can­vas as well as zoom in and out while you paint, which made it eas­ier to work quickly and ef­fi­ciently. To get the en­tire can­vas back to 100 per­cent, sim­ply dou­ble tap the top right cor­ner of the can­vas.

Once I com­pleted Phil's head, I added an­other layer be­low it and blocked in the rest of the fore­ground, which is com­posed of his body and the front chair arm. Next, I merged the two painted lay­ers to­gether, again mak­ing an­other layer be­low it to block in the back and rear arm of the chair. Once I was happy with it, I merged all the painted lay­ers to­gether.

At this point in my work, I al­ways du­pli­cate the piece in the gallery. This in­sures I have an­other ver­sion to revert back to in case I mess up along the way.
