BLOCK THE SCENE USING LAYERS

Next, I blocked in the color of the composition. I lowered the opacity of the line sketch and placed it on the topmost layer in the stack, blocking in color on the layer below it. You can rotate the canvas as well as zoom in and out while you paint, which made it easier to work quickly and efficiently. To get the entire canvas back to 100 percent, simply double tap the top right corner of the canvas.

Once I completed Phil's head, I added another layer below it and blocked in the rest of the foreground, which is composed of his body and the front chair arm. Next, I merged the two painted layers together, again making another layer below it to block in the back and rear arm of the chair. Once I was happy with it, I merged all the painted layers together.

At this point in my work, I always duplicate the piece in the gallery. This insures I have another version to revert back to in case I mess up along the way.
