A gar­den-themed pincushion will be cre­ated with a va­ri­ety of sur­face em­broi­dery stitches in this early-bird class that com­ple­ments the projects from In an English Coun­try Gar­den.

MINIKIN Jackie du Plessis, in­struc­tor

This de­fin­i­tive retic­ule in the shape of a chalise is adorned with silk stitched blooms and fin­ished into a hand-carry sized draw­string silk pouch. A sam­pling needle­case book­let that fits into the retic­ule will com­plete the project.

This Rhode Is­land sam­pler is the old­est one known to in­clude the spe­cific bands in the de­sign. Worked on 35-count linen, the sam­pler mea­sures 13¼" x 19¼". Class in­cludes a pre­sen­ta­tion about the his­tory of this New Eng­land treasure.

MY NEE­DLE’S WORKE SAM­PLER/HUSWIF Ellen Ch­ester, in­struc­tor

This orig­i­nal de­sign can be stitched as a sam­pler and framed or made into a folded needle­work case. A co­or­di­nat­ing needle­book case com­pletes the project. Photo shows in­side of huswif.

OLIVIA AND HER SAM­PLER WITH SHAKER BOX Ellen Ch­ester, in­struc­tor

Du­pi­oni silk fab­ric, 36-count linen and silk threads are used to cre­ate a scis­sors case and needle­book that will fit in a wooden box fea­tur­ing an em­broi­dered bot­tom. This early-bird class in­cludes a hand­made Shaker Box.

BE IT MY AM­BI­TION Ellen Ch­ester, in­struc­tor

This com­part­men­tal­ized-style sam­pler has nine oc­tag­o­nal car­touches sur­rounded by a lus­cious strawberry vine bor­der. This early-bird class project will be stitched on 36-count linen with silk threads.

Stitched on 32-count linen, Quaker mo­tifs and sen­ti­ments of the Christ­mas sea­son are stitched on this sweet needleroll that in­cludes a per­son­al­ized pocket, a pin­ball, a scis­sors sheath and a beaded fob. Scis­sors, waxer and stitch counter are in­cluded.

Us­ing two weights of silk thread, this 6½" by 17" band sam­pler in­cor­po­rates both raised and pulled stitches to cre­ate a lovely, fun-to-stitch, tex­tured piece of needle­work. Silk-rib­bon, sur­face and beaded em­broi­dery are com­bined with simple stump­work tech­niques in this gar­den-in­spired sam­pler.
