Autumn Place Mat & Flatware Pockets
Set your table with trendy place mats with pockets, or if you prefer a tablecloth, put your flatware in individual decorative pockets. These delicate designs are pretty stitched on 36-count Edinburgh linen.

Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss. Backstitch over two threads using two strands of floss. Straight stitch using two strands of floss.

Press stitched piece from reverse side, straightening as much as possible. Trim stitched piece to 2" from vertical sides, 13/4" from bottom and 2" from top.
Fold top of stitched piece down 1/4" to right side; press. Sew close to edge. Fold top edge under another 1/4" to right side and baste in place.
Fold top of lining piece over 1/4" and sew to keep from fraying. Place lining piece in center of reverse side of stitched piece. Fold stitched piece over bottom and two sides of lining. Press. Baste together and press again. Place stitched piece on bottom right corner of place mat, right side up, leaving 1" of place mat on right side and bottom. Stitch pocket to place mat. Press stitched piece from reverse side, straightening as much as possible. Trim stitched piece to 11/2" from sides, 1" from top and bottom.
Stitch the top edge of stitched piece with buttonhole stitch. Place two back panel pieces right sides together. Stitch sides and top edge using 1/4" seam allowance. Turn right side out. Press. Turn in edges of bottom edge and stitch across bottom edge.
Center lining piece on reverse side of stitching. Fold the sides and bottom under 1/4". Baste and press.
Place lined stitched piece at lower end of back panel, wrong side down. Baste along sides. Topstitch 1/4" all around, beginning at center bottom of pocket, along side to center top of back panel. Clip threads close to stitching. Complete topstitching by stitching from center bottom to center top on remaining side.
