Jewelry Roll Exterior: This section uses the stitched piece from Part 1 of this series. Press stitched piece from reverse side, straightening as much as possible. Trim stitched piece to 11/4" from stitching on all sides.
Cut a piece of silk fabric to same size as trimmed stitched piece. Fold 5/8" seam allowance to back of stitched piece and press folds. Repeat for silk fabric. Cut quilt batting to same size (to fit inside folded seam allowances). Cut two 6" lengths of silk ribbon.
Place stitched piece, right side down, on work surface. Place quilt batting on top of stitched piece, inside folded edges. Place silk fabric, right side up, atop batting. Place approximately 1" of a silk ribbon between silk fabric and batting in center of shortest edge (a) (see diagrams 1 and 2). Baste layers together.
Slip-stitch edges of stitched piece and silk fabric together, being sure to secure ribbon. On design side of roll, sew end of second silk ribbon (b) to bottom of center motif (see diagram 2).
Jewelry Roll Interior: This section uses the three stitched pieces ( Pocket, Necklace Carrier and Rings Carrier) from Part 2 of the series.
Press all three stitched pieces from the reverse side, straightening as much as possible.
Working with the Pocket first, trim the side that will be the open end to 1" from stitching. Trim remaining three sides to 1/4" from stitching. Fold under open-end side 1/2" from stitching. Fold under remaining sides next to stitching. Press folds. Place Pocket (c) on silk fabric of jewelry roll as indicated in diagram 1. Sew using a ladder stitch around three sides of Pocket to roll, leaving open end free.
Next, trim Necklace Carrier stitched piece to 1/2" from stitching on all sides. Fold back allowance next to stitching and press. Place Necklace Carrier (d) on jewelry roll as indicated in diagram 1. Stitch to roll along all sides.
For Rings Carrier and ring roll, trim Rings Carrier stitched piece to 1/2" from stitching on all sides. Fold back seam allowance and press. Place Rings Carrier (e) on jewelry roll as indicated in diagram 1. Stitch to roll along all sides.
Cut a 15/8" x 31/8" piece of silk fabric for ring roll. Fold in half on long side, right sides together. Sew together long side and one short end. Turn right side out and fill with polyester fiberfill until firm. Cut two 6" lengths of silk ribbon. Place end of one ribbon (f) in open end of ring roll and sew closed, securing ribbon. Place ring roll ( g) on Ring Carrier section as indicated in diagram 1. Sew end opposite ribbon to ring carrier (h).
Sew one end of second ribbon (i) to ring carrier near ribbon end of ring roll. Once rings are placed on ring roll, ribbons can be tied into bow to keep rings on roll.
Sew mother-of-pearl thread rings ( j) to Necklace Carrier section as indicated in diagram 1.
