Fo­rum on comp plan up­date set for Nov. 2

CH­ESTER­TOWN — The Kent County Plan­ning Com­mis­sion re­cently an­nounced that there have been 436 com­pleted cit­i­zen sur­vey forms sub­mit­ted and recorded with re­spect to the up­date of the county’s com­pre­hen­sive plan.

The sur­vey com­menced in July and con­cluded Fir­day, Oct. 21.

The sur­vey asked Kent County res­i­dents to share their opin­ions on land use, growth, agri­cul­tural and his­toric preser­va­tion strate­gies, along with gen­eral im­pres­sions on the di­rec­tion of the county.

The sur­vey re­sults will be pre­sented to the Kent County Plan­ning Com­mis­sion and the county com­mis­sion­ers for their de­lib­er­a­tions in the plan up­date. The sur­vey is part of a pub­lic par­tic­i­pa­tion ef­fort to in­volve Kent County res­i­dents in the up­date to the county’s com­pre­hen­sive plan.

The plan­ning com­mis­sion is seek­ing pub­lic par­tic­i­pa­tion at its se­cond com­mu­nity fo­rum on the up­date of the com­pre­hen­sive plan from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed­nes­day, Nov. 2 at Kent County High School in Wor­ton. The plan­ning com­mis­sion is seek­ing the pub­lic’s re­sponse, com­ments and opin­ions on the draft en­vi­ron­ment, trans­porta­tion and hous­ing sec­tions.

The plan­ning com­mis­sion has been meet­ing with its con­sul­tant, Sandy Coy­man of Earth Data Inc., and plan­ning staff on the first Wed­nes­day of each month to up­date and re­vise the 2006 Com­pre­hen­sive Plan. Th­ese meet­ings are open to the pub­lic and also are live streamed at www.kent­ com­mis­sion­ers/meet­ing-live­v­ideo.

A third com­mu­nity fo­rum will be sched­uled dur­ing late fall as the project pro­gresses. Once the draft plan is com­pleted, for­mal pub­lic hear­ings will be held by both the plan­ning com­mis­sion and the county com­mis­sion­ers.
