Girls bas­ket­ball Kent cagers to travel for re­gion­als

WORTON — Ju­nior point guard Teira John­son sin­gle-hand­edly de­feated St. Michaels on Thurs­day, scor­ing 35 points in host Kent County’s 62-27 vic­tory.

It was the reg­u­lar-sea­son fi­nale for both schools.

The all-un­der­class­man Tro­jans ap­plied the brakes to a 10-game los­ing streak and im­proved their seed­ing in the Class 1A East Re­gion bas­ket­ball tour­na­ment that be­gins at the end of the week.

Kent County (5-15) scored all the points it needed be­fore in­ter­mis­sion, clos­ing out the first half on an 11-2 run to build an in­sur­mount­able 40-14 lead.

Fresh­man Yas­mine Jiggetts’ three-point play with 3 min­utes, 1 sec­ond re­main­ing in the third quar­ter gave the Tro­jans a 30-point lead, 51-21, and started the run­ning clock.

The spread was 57-22 head­ing into the fi­nal frame.
