Coastal cleanup close to home

— Vol­un­teers Tom Wall, from left, Er­ney Ma­her and War­ren Beaven and Emily Har­ris, wa­ter­shed co­or­di­na­tor for the Ch­ester River As­so­ci­a­tion, show their haul Satur­day after par­tic­i­pat­ing in the Ocean Con­ser­vancy’s In­ter­na­tional Coastal Cleanup at Urieville Lake. They col­lected three full trash bags, mostly plas­tic and glass bev­er­age bot­tles, alu­minum cans, food wrap­pers and pieces of plas­tic bags. Har­ris is hold­ing a wooden post found in the brush that is be­lieved to have come from some­one’s house, she said. Satur­day’s event was part of the Kent County Shore­line Cleanup cam­paign in part­ner­ship with the Sas­safras River As­so­ci­a­tion and Kent County Pub­lic Works.
